TRIBE FOUND LIVING IN JUNGLE
by Twilight 2/28/98
Dr. Anthony Diggins held a press conference on Friday (2/27/98) and Saturday (2/28/98) to inform the citizens of Kymer that he had discovered a tribe hidden in the jungle.
The following is a condensed version of the news conference on Saturday:
Dr. Anthony Diggins: Well, some time ago, soon after the opening of the Jungle, I found something rather unexpected there. Or rather, it found me. Well, what I discovered was a tribe of hitherto undiscovered people living in the Jungle.
Since then I have spend most of my time among them, trying to gather any information I could. Evidence seems to suggest that it was they who made those footprints in the Jungle. (Though Echo may have attached a tell-me-about.)
It's always difficult to decide what to discuss next, there's a lot to talk about.
At the moment they are inhabiting the deep, dark sections of the Jungle, the paths of which are difficult to discern unless you have spent considerable time there.
Necrolyte White Rose: Well, you must know how to find them.. you did find them.
Dr. Anthony Diggins: No, they found me. After having spent some time among them, I seem to have relieved some of their worries about us, and are planning to emerge once more into the lighter areas of the Jungle in the near future.
Dethan: I have noticed fleeting glimpses of doors between locales are those indications of future openings?
Dr. Anthony Diggins: I don't know anything about openings. I just study here. The tribespeople do have their own language, which is difficult to discern unless some small amount of study is applied.
Sister Echo: so.. are you able to go back to them?
Dr. Anthony Diggins: I cannot go back to them. Even now, having tread the paths they used under their guidence, I cannot find them again.
Sister Echo: How long did you study them again?
Dr. Anthony Diggins: A few months. It's been a while. I could provide some examples of their language, if you had a simple sentence to translate?
Dethan: How does one say "Hello" to them?
Dr. Anthony Diggins: eyero Means "hello." Any other SIMPLE sentences I could translate?
Dethan: How does one say "Welcome" in their language?
Dr. Anthony Diggins: irisoce means welcome. The tribespeople do not appear to use capital letters.
Bill The Galactic Hero: Are you going to produce a handy phrase book for tourists?
Dr. Anthony Diggins: I have considered a phrasebook. Perhaps based on "Basic English," a simple system of English devised some decades ago, containing the most commonly used words.
Sister Echo: So do men wear only tangas?
Dr. Anthony Diggins: The question of their attire is a confusing one.
Necrolyte White Rose: What do they wear? What do they look like?
Dr. Anthony Diggins: To me, they appear to be wearing exactly what we wear, but they CLAIM that they are wearing something different. Their priests talk something I can't quite make out about dreaming and expectations, but I can't make much sense of that.
Necrolyte White Rose: okok..when are they coming out?
Dr. Anthony Diggins: Well, from what their priests suggest, they may be out within a week. But don't expect them to leave the jungle. That seems unlikely at any time in the near future.
Question from the cloud: Do they worship Morpheus? The answer is, no, or at least not by that name. Their religion appears based on a system of spirits rather than what we would see as a traditional god. He also asks will they speak to us? I think the answer to that is definitely yes, though it may be difficult to make out at first.
Mats: Are they permanent residents?
Dr. Anthony Diggins: I don't think they plan on leaving any time soon, Mats.
Sister Echo: How do they behave in a crtical situation?
Dr. Anthony Diggins: I suppose that would depend on the situation. They're people, just like us, though circumstances vary greatly. They have a unique system of naming, they have a common appearance, and there are other indications as well that would take too long to describe in full.
The Shadow (Stu): How many are there? What EXACT locales have they been spotted in most?
Dr. Anthony Diggins: Answer to that, none. They've hardly been outside their hiding places.
Necrolyte White Rose: Well, who made the footprints?
Dr. Anthony Diggins: I said hardly. They have been testing a little to see what would happen. They're acting very cautiously -- I don't need to tell you they're worried about us.
Bill The Galactic Hero: Question from Watchman: how will we and they interact in the future
Dr. Anthony Diggins: How will they and we interact in the future? I'd say that's up to you and them to determine.
Lovesong: I'm not happy having these people pop up and you unable (or unwilling) to tell us more about them
Dr. Anthony Diggins: To Lovesong, well, you can just wait and see. They appear, to me anyway, to be friendly, as a group.
Watchman asks what they want from us. Well, that remains to be seen, but from what I've learned...friendship.
Avatara: how will we know them when we see them?
Dr. Anthony Diggins: Avatara, I think it'll be obvious -- their names, heads, and they have a general simularity of appearance. Yes, most of them have Jaguar heads
The Shadow (Stu): their footprints go further away from Kymer every Day, where are they going to?
Dr. Anthony Diggins: The Shadow, you may be reading too much into the direction of the footprints. They may have paths leading all through the Jungle, in different directions.
Dethan: What is their word for "food"?
Dr. Anthony Diggins: Their word for food is sirr.
Woger Wabbit asks about currency: They use tokens for some things, indeed there is some significance attached by them to the ATM in the jungle, but they prefer to barter when they can.
Dethan: Are there other distinctions between them other than Priest and tribesman?
Dr. Anthony Diggins: There are ways to tell them apart. Priests appear to have some fondness for googahs.
The Shadow (Stu): What names have you heard them saying or using?
Dr. Anthony Diggins: Sometimes their names provide a distinction as well.
Clive asks if you give them a googah, if tribespeople will give you an item in return. I think it'd depend onthe Tribesperson, but I think a few of them would just say some equivilant to "Gee, thanks!" and zip away. If you wish to make a trade with them, I suggest you set it up with them first.
Necrolyte White Rose: They are mirror images of us...another WA world.
Dr. Anthony Diggins: That I cannot say... if they are a mirror, it's parabolic.
Necrolyte White Rose: To answer a question from the cloud: I have not met a tribe person yet But I would be more than happy to meet one, if the good ol' doc will help me.
Dr. Anthony Diggins: Well, I could perhaps in introduce you, but only after they decide to come out of hiding. It will take them a few days to work up the nerve.
Living Doll asks what I think is the most important part of my discovery. In all honesty, I don't know. There is much oppourtunity here, many things to be learned on both sides. It will be interesting to see what happens.
Necrolyte White Rose: Out of the things you have already seen..what kind of homes do they live in? What direction would be go in to get close to their homes?
Dr. Anthony Diggins: Some of them have jungle turf homes.
It seems that we have a new and rather curious mystery that is currently unfolding here in Kymer.
Exacly who and what is the tribe? I guess only time will tell!
